Gclid (Google Click Identifier) targeting allows you to show or hide popups based on whether a user arrives at your site via a Google Ads click. This guide will walk you through the steps to set up Gclid targeting for your popups in Poper.
Steps to Use Gclid Targeting
Step 1: Access Your Dashboard
Login to your Poper account using your credentials.
Step 2: Open or Create a Popup
Once logged in, you will be taken to your Poper dashboard.
Find the popup you want to edit from the list of popups and click on it to open the editor.
If you want to create a new popup, click on "Add New" to open the popup editor.
Step 3: Configure Audience Targeting
In the Popup Editor window, look for the left-hand navigation menu.
Click on "Display Conditions" > "Audience" to open the targeting settings.
Scroll down the Audience Targeting section until you find "UTM & Gclid Targeting". This was previously named "UTM Targeting" but has been updated to include Gclid targeting.
Step 4: Set Up Gclid Targeting Rules
Select Show or Hide Condition:
Choose whether you want to Show or Hide the popup when the condition is met.
Select Parameter:
In the parameter dropdown, select "Gclid".
Select Condition:
In the condition dropdown, select "Present" or "Not Present". Alternatively, you can choose from other options like "Contains" or "Starts with", but most use cases are covered by the "Gclid" "Present" condition.
Add Rule:
Click on "Add Rule" to apply the targeting rule.
Step 5: Save and Test Your Popup
Save the Popup:
Click on the "Save" button to apply all your settings to the popup.
Test the Popup:
Visit your website without any Gclid parameters to ensure the popup does not appear.
Then, open a page on your website with Gclid parameters in the URL (e.g., ?gclid=example123) to check that the popup appears.
Example Test URL
To test if the Gclid targeting is working, you can manually add a Gclid parameter to your website URL. For example:
Additional Notes
Use the "Present" condition to show the popup to users who arrive at your site with a Gclid parameter in the URL. This is useful for tracking and engaging users coming from Google Ads campaigns.
By following these steps, you can effectively use Gclid targeting to control the display of your popups in Poper. This allows you to tailor your marketing efforts to users who are directed to your site through Google Ads, enhancing your ability to convert these visitors.
