Poper Quiz — How do I run a live, presenter-led quiz where everyone answers at the same time?

Written by Karan Bhakuni

Short answer: Turn on Live Quiz in Configuration, start a session from the workspace, share the join link or QR code with your audience, and control each question from the presenter screen. Answers, counts, and the leaderboard appear in real time, and final results are saved to your responses just like a normal quiz.

Live Quiz vs the regular quiz — what changes

  • The presenter (you) controls when each question starts and ends; visitors do not move on their own.

  • Everyone in the room sees the same question at the same time.

  • The Logic tab is disabled while Live Quiz is on, because the presenter — not the saved flow — drives the order.

  • Final responses still land in the Results tab so you can review them later.

Step 1 — Enable Live Quiz

  1. Open the quiz and go to Configuration.

  2. Open the Live Quiz section.

  3. Toggle Enable Live Quiz on.

  4. Pick the settings that match how you will run it:

    • ModePresenter-paced (you click Next) or Self-paced (participants advance on their own once a question opens).

    • Countdown per question — seconds each question stays open.

    • Show real-time results — show the answer chart after each question.

    • Show leaderboard between questions — keeps competition visible.

    • Allow late join — let people join after it has started.

    • Reactions, chat, word cloud — turn on the social features you want.

    • Max participants — set a cap if needed.

Step 2 — Start a live session

  1. Save the quiz so your latest changes are in.

  2. From the workspace, click Start Live Quiz (the option appears once Live Quiz is enabled).

  3. The presenter screen opens with a lobby showing a join link and a QR code.

Step 3 — Get participants in

  1. Share the join link in chat, on screen, or as a QR code participants scan with their phones.

  2. Watch the participant count climb as people join the lobby.

  3. When you are ready, click Start on the presenter screen.

Step 4 — Run the quiz from the presenter screen

While each question is open you can see:

  1. The current question and timer ring.

  2. Live answer count as people submit.

  3. A real-time chart of which option is being chosen (when enabled).

  4. A leaderboard between questions (when enabled).

  5. Reactions, chat, and a word cloud for text questions (when enabled).

To move forward, use Next when the timer ends or when you want to cut a question short. Between questions, Continue moves on from the leaderboard view.

Step 5 — Finish and review

  1. After the last question, the presenter screen shows a final podium / leaderboard.

  2. End the session from the presenter screen.

  3. Open the Results tab in the quiz workspace — the live session’s responses are saved there with score, time, and answers, just like a normal completion.

Things people commonly ask while running a live quiz

  • Can I edit questions during a live session? No — finalize your questions before starting. Re-open the editor afterwards if you need to change them for the next session.

  • What happens if someone loses Wi-Fi? They can rejoin from the same join link if Allow late join is on, and continue from the current question.

  • Can I run two live sessions for the same quiz? Starting a new live session ends any previous active session for that quiz.

  • Why is the Logic tab grayed out? Live Quiz is on. Turn it off if you want to edit the saved branching flow; turn it back on when you are ready to host live.

  • Can participants see each other’s names? They appear in the leaderboard with the name they joined as. Ask them to enter a name they are okay with showing.

If something is not working

  • No one can join — confirm the quiz is published and you used the link from the live lobby (not the editor URL).

  • Answers are not counting — make sure you actually clicked Start; the lobby does not record answers.

  • Leaderboard looks empty — turn on Show leaderboard between questions in the Live Quiz settings and start a fresh session.

  • Question stays open too long / too short — change Countdown per question in Live Quiz settings; presenter-paced mode also lets you click Next any time.

  • Participants are stuck on “waiting” — they joined before you clicked Start. Press Start from the presenter screen.
