How can I choose the right consent strategy in the Cookie Consent widget?

Choose whether the Cookie Consent widget should only inform visitors or ask them for explicit cookie consent.

Use the consent strategy to decide how much choice visitors should have before cookies or tracking scripts are allowed. This is the first setting to choose because it controls which buttons and consent options appear in the Cookie Consent widget.

What to notice in the screenshot

  1. Just tell users: Shows an informational banner that visitors can dismiss with one confirmation button.

  2. Ask users: Shows consent choices such as allow, deny, and preferences. Use this when visitors should actively choose before optional scripts run.

  3. Preference Center and Revisit Icon: These extra options appear only when Ask users is selected.

When to use Just tell users

Choose Just tell users when your banner only needs to tell visitors that your website uses cookies. In this mode, the visitor dismisses the banner, but they do not accept or deny categories.

This is useful for simple notices where you are not using the widget to gate analytics, ads, or other optional scripts.

When to use Ask users

Choose Ask users when visitors need a real consent choice. This mode is the right starting point if you want the Cookie Consent widget to show allow and deny buttons, open a preference center, or block scripts until consent is given.

After selecting Ask users, review the preference and script settings before publishing so the banner matches the consent behavior you need.
